For couples, I no longer take insurance. In short, insurance companies do not pay well for these. In my experience, couples therapy is more challenging work as we have to account for each individual and the relationship, so I no longer take insurance for couples therapy.

Then, depending on the insurance company, I may have to write a report every 5-10 sessions to show that you’re still sick with that mental disorder. For them to continue paying for therapy, my report needs to show that you’re still sick and getting better, but that you aren’t cured yet. I would prefer not to have to write a report that shares details of your mental disorder.
I prefer to decide with you how well our therapy is going instead of an insurance company. Finally, if you’re self-employed or ever plan to be, then a mental disorder diagnosis on your record can make getting health care insurance very expensive.
These are the reasons I do not prefer to use insurance.
